Ararat Rural City is strategically positioned at the intersection of the Western and Pyrenees Highways, approximately 198 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. A key regional service hub in Victoria's mid-west, Ararat is supported by several smaller rural communities and offers direct access to the Grampians National Park, the historic Goldfields region, Victoria's southern coastline, and metropolitan Melbourne.

Only town founded by Chinese pioneers

Ararat holds a unique place in Australian history. It is the only town on the continent founded by Chinese settlers. In the mid-1850s, a group of Chinese miners travelling to the Victorian goldfields discovered gold near the site of present-day Ararat. Their find drew a rush of fellow miners and the town grew from there.

Today, that history is commemorated at the Ararat Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre, built by local residents in partnership with Ararat Rural City Council to honour the town’s gold rush origins and the Chinese community that shaped it.

 

For investors with ties to the Asia-Pacific region, Ararat is not simply a regional location. It is a place with deep and documented Chinese heritage, a connection that carries meaning beyond the balance sheet.
